Talks underway between government, MQM delegation in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Negotiations between the government and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are underway in Islamabad today (Monday) to address reservations of the disgruntled party.

The meeting is taking place at Punjab House. Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid, Barrister Zafarfullah are representing the government whereas MQM delegation comprises Farooq Sattar, Kanwar Naveed and Waseem Akhtar.

The participants are discussing formation of a committee to address the MQM’s concerns.

According to sources, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Ishaq Dar are not joining the talks in the first phase but the protesting party has asked the JUI-F to attend the meeting.

On this, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said he will join them whenever needed.

On August 12, the members of parliament from MQM, eight senators, 24 MNAs (members of the National Assembly) and 51 members of provincial Sindh assembly, tendered their resigned in protest against alleged victimisation of party workers.

Afterwards, the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought Maulana Fazlur Rehman s assistance to convince MQM s 24 lawmakers to rejoin parliament for the sake of stability in Karachi.
