GUJRANWALA (Web Desk) – At least three people were killed and several others injured when three bogies of a train fell into canal due to bridge collapse in Jamke Chatha area near Gujranwala today (Thursday), Dunya News reported.

The Chanawan Bridge suddently collapsed around 12:00pm.



According to sources, six passenger and 21 bogies for goods transportation were attached to the ill-fated train that was heading to Kharian from Pano Aqil.

A relief train carrying technical, mechanical and medical staff was sent to the spot from Lahore on the directives of Pakistan Railways`Divisional Superintendent.

Eighty passenger have been rescued so far with the help of local residents, divers and army personnel.



The injured persons have been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Gujranwala.

Rescue operation is underway.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed concerns on the tragic incident and directed the authorities to provide medical aid to the injured and arrange their return to their destination points.

He also ordered to mobilize all resources for restoration of the track.
