ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday announced the government had rejected Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority’s (OGRA) decision to increase petroleum prices.

Talking to the inaugural ceremony of Islamabad Highway signal free expansion project, PM Nawaz said that petroleum prices are adjusted as per the international rates, adding that OGRA recommended to increase oil prices after surge in international markets. However, he said, it was decided that the prices will remain the same in the month of Ramazan. He said the government will bear the deficit of Rs 2.5 billion in this regard.

Prime Minister said that he did not said anything false in order to get votes in election, adding that they had told in the election campaign that load shedding cannot be curbed soon.

“We’ll be able to curb electricity crisis by the end of 2017, God willing”, he said. “The electricity prices reduced by Rs 5.25 during our tenure and this is something extraordinary”

He said the load shedding has relatively reduced if compared with that of previous year. He told the people not to worry and to be patient during load shedding instead of coming on roads bearing sticks and rods.

Prime Minister told that Islamabad Highway signal free expansion project is 24 kilometer long starting from Zero Point and ends till Rawat and that the project will cost Rs 21.81 billion.
