ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The process of unannounced loadshedding in various cities including Lahore and Karachi is underway as the system failed due to technical faults with an increase in the demand of electricity, Dunya News reported on Friday.

According to National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC) sources, the electricity demand has escalated 18,000 MW whereas the production is limited to 14,200 MW.

The government has announced six to eight hours of loadshedding in a shortfall of 4000 MW.

Due to increased pressure on the system, transformers and grid stations of mostly areas are being subject to malfunctioning due to which unannounced and forced outages continue in the metropolis.

Due to fault in Riwaz Garden grid station, long time power outage was conducted in Islam Pura, Sandha, Riwaz Garden and adjoining areas.

A day before technical glitches occurred in Bund road grid station whereas loadshedding was also carried out in the areas linked to Shadbagh, Shalamar, Township, China scheme, Mozang and Multan road at the time of Sehr and Taraaweeh.

Despite of government announcement regarding no power outage during Sehr, Iftar and Taraaweeh timings, people were deprived of electricity on the first day of Ramazan.
