ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Power shortfall has reached 4700 megawatt (MW) with unannounced load-shedding in urban areas due to increased pressure on the system, Dunya News reported on Tuesday.

According to NTDC sources, the electricity demand is 16,100 MW whereas the production is 11,400 MW. Besides this, urban areas are facing nine hours and rural areas 11 hours of power outage.

Sources said that power demand is gradually increasing due to warm weather whereas water outflow has not grown in big dams as a result of which hydroelectric production is not being raised.

Moreover, hydroelectric sources are generating power half of their capacity due to which loadshedding duration is not being minimized.
