Peshawar: Rehabilitation crawls as rain-affectees wait for govt's aid
KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak will chair a meeting today in the Cabinet Room
PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – The affectees in the rain-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) wait for government’s aid as the rehabilitation process crawls three days after the storm. The affectees are facing severe shortage of potable water.
The power supply to Wahid Garhi, Badhu Samarbagh, Pakha Ghulam, Khazana and adjoining areas could not be reestablished after the storm that desolated several houses on April 26 night. The electricity supply lack has resulted in severe shortage of potable water in the areas.
The rehabilitation process has not been started so far in most of the storm-hit areas. In Wahid Garhi, the people are helping themselves out by clearing the rubble.
KP Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak will chair a meeting today in the Cabinet Room which will be attended by the almost all the ministers to discuss the situation. Minister for Information Mushtaq Ghani will hold a press briefing after the meeting. However, the district administration has not yet estimated the destruction caused by the natural disaster.
The CM has formed a team headed by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) DGP to make an estimate the losses of crops and houses. However, the team has not initiated the process so far. The administration has declared as many as 59 union councils (UC) of Peshawar sensitive due to vulnerability to floods and expected torrential rains. According to the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (PESCO), at least 18 grid stations have encountered technical faults while as many as 50 electricity poles were demolished in the rains.
At least 24 affectees are under treatment in Lady Reading Hospital including 13 women.
