Summary Khawaja Asif said that loadshedding will be eliminated in 2018.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Friday said that electricity generation in the country had increased by 1,500 megawatt as compared to the last year but loadshedding cannot be eliminated until 2018, Dunya news reported.
During press conference he said that the average demand of electricity is 15,000 MW whereas the production is 11,000 MW resulting in a difference of only four megawatt.
He said that power projects of 8,370 MW had been signed with China during Chinese President s visit to Pakistan which would be implemented in all the provinces, including AJK as the government believes in equitable distribution of resources.
"These projects will bring an investment of 20 billion dollars. This is not loan but a direct foreign investment," he added.
Khawaja Asif also confirmed that the projects will be completed till 2018.
The minister also expressed that cheap electricity can only be produced through our own resources however power plants run through LNG will generate 3600 MW electricity.
The minister also stated that ARSA has halted the provision of water to the rivers resulting in an unusual decrease in electricity production.
Only 2500 MW electricity is being generated instead of 7000 MW due to water’s standstill, he added.
