Attabad Lake: Blasting on to widen spillway

Blasts are being carried out to remove three boulders hampering the water outflow besides widening the spillway at Attabad Lake on Tuesday. The water outflow through Attabad spillway is being witnessed at nearly 9,500 cusecs after the process of blasting got underway this morning, the lake administration said. Fierce land sliding, from big mountains situated along Attabad lake, also continues for sometimes, whereas, experts predicted that water outgoing from lake will remain on rise if everything works as planned. Meanwhile, a total of two hotels and six houses in Gulmat and another two houses in Shah Kat places have been submerged under water owing to rise in water level at lake. Helicopter service is still on as part of relief and rescue efforts for affectees in low-lying areas.
