Summary Polio drops will be administered to 6.8 million children across the province.
LAHORE (Web Desk) – Anti-polio campaign to vaccinate children below age of five has commenced in eight high-risk districts of Punjab including Lahore on Monday, Dunya News reported.
Other districts include Rawalpindi, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Gujrat.
During the campaign, polio drops will be administered to 6.8 million children across the province.
The health workers will go door-to-door to achieve the target.
Pakistan reported 306 polio cases last year, far and away the largest share of the 359 cases worldwide recorded by the Global Eradicate Polio Initiative.
Once a common childhood disease, polio - which can cause paralysis and mostly affects children under age five - has declined by 99 percent in the last 25 years with aggressive vaccination campaigns, according to the WHO.
Polio has made a comeback in Pakistan since the outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban began targeting government health workers conducting vaccine campaigns.
