Petroleum Ministry admits to stealing oil from pipe lines

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- The Ministry of Petroleum has admitted to stealing oil from pipe lines on Wednesday, reported Dunya News.
Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has rejected the investigation report on the matter and snubbed the Secretary of Petroleum Ministry for involvement in the matter.

Under the presidency of Syed Khurshid Shah, a meeting of PAC was convened in which a fact finding report on oil stealing was presented.

PAC was informed that complaints of stealing had been received from areas of Till block, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa(KP).

The investigation team visited 8 sites for inspection whereas it found proof of oil stealing from only 2 sites. However no incidents of stealing from oil wells was reported.

Secretary Petroleum Arshad Mirza accepted the claim of oil stealing but denied the figure of 20 to 40 billion rupees worth of stolen oil.

Chairman PAC Khurshid Shah appeared angry on the briefing presented to the committee adding that the committee was being misled and details regarding the culprits behind the case were not being revealed adding that most of the reports are being filed from the provinces of KP and Sindh.

PAC appointed Naveed Qamar to head a 5 member sub-committee which will report its findings in a span of two months
