Another 32 MQM suspects sent on 90-day remand

KARACHI (Web Desk) – An anti-terrorism court has remanded another 32 suspects in Ranger’s custody for 90 days today (Friday), Dunya News reported.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday after Rangers personnel raided the office of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), the main political party in Karachi, seizing a huge quantity of weapons.

Hardened criminals including Faisal Mota, Obaid K2 and Nadir were presented before court among other 32 suspects. The accused were brought blindfolded and handcuffed to the court amidst a large contingent of police and Rangers.

Faisal Mota has already been convicted in TV journalist Wali Babar’s murder case.

The court has sent Faisal Mota, Farhan Mulla, Nadir Shah and Amir Saleem on physical remand till March 25 while granted the Rangers 90 days custody of the another 32 men in order to investigate the weapons charges against them.

Under the conventional criminal laws courts are allowed to hold suspects for week, but this period increases to 90 days under the recently passed Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) which deals with terror cases.
