LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Members of the Punjab Assembly have made the preparations to give themselves a pay-raise. The members who were elected to solve public problems are now all set to solve their own problems. Recommendations for heavy increment in the salaries and loads of other facilities were accepted within no time on Tuesday, Dunya News reported.

Special committee of the Punjab Assembly presented their recommendations before the session suggesting raising the salaries of the members. The members were quick to approve all the recommendations as well.

The committee has recommended increasing the basic salaries of the members from Rs. 12,000 per month to Rs. 30,000. It has also recommended increasing the house rent from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 20,000 but did not suggest any increase in the office maintenance allowance. Telephone allowance has suggested being raised to Rs. 10,000 a month from Rs. 5000 while expenditures allowance has been suggested being raised to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 5000.

According to these recommendations, utility allowance will be raised to Rs. 4500 from Rs. 3000; additional traveling allowance will be raised to Rs. 120,000 from Rs. 75,000. The daily allowance during the session has been suggested being raised from Rs. 600 a day to Rs. 1000 while a raise of Rs. 100 has been suggested in conveyance allowance. Traveling allowance has been suggested being raised from Rs. 5 per kilometer to Rs. 15 per kilometer, accommodation allowance to Rs. 2500 from Rs. 1500, petrol and car maintenance allowance from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 20,000 and special allowance commission for Chairman Standing Committee has been suggested to be raised from Rs. 3500 to Rs. 10,000.

The report was prepared by a special committee comprising members from all the political parties. The raise in salaries will be implemented through legislation. The committee has also recommended raising the allowances and salaries of the chief minister, speaker, deputy speaker, opposition leader, ministers, parliamentary secretaries and the special advisors at the same ratio.

The bill to increase the salaries will be formally tabled for legislation during the next session.
