Summary Jaishankar paid a visit to the Indian High Commission after the first round of talks
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Tuesday has favoured a collective effort to better relations with Pakistan. He said that India favours a collective effort for the welfare of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries.
He expressed these views in a press conference in Islamabad.
He said that he is very happy to visit Pakistan. He said that his visit to Pakistan has been made possible by Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi’s SAARC Yatra Programme. India wants good relations with all the neighbouring coutries, he added. Jaishankar said that Islamabad visit has given him an opportunity to talk about matters of mutual interest. He and his Pakistani counterpart were able to discuss reservations of both the countries. Jaishankar declared the meeting successful and constructive.
He said that the meeting talked about India’s reservations regarding terror acts. Moreover, both the countries talked about eliminating each other’s reservations and work together for the betterment of SAARC countries. Jaishankar stressed the importance of peace on the Line of Control (LoC).
Earlier, the Indian delegation met with Pakistani Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry, Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Tariq Fatmi. Delegations of both the countries underwent at least two rounds of discussion of matters of mutual interest. Trade, security, Kashmir and Siachin issues and other matters were discussed.
Jaishankar paid a visit to the Indian High Commission after the first round of talks. He will also meet PM Nawaz Shairf to give him Modi’s special message.
