Summary Indian foreign secretary has arrived in Islamabad today (Tuesday) on a two-day official visit.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Indian Foreign Secretary Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is holding talks with his Pakistani counterpart Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhary in Islamabad.

Jaishankar s two-day visit to Pakistan comes seven months after India called off foreign secretary talks over Pakistani high commissioner s meeting with Kashmiri leaders.

Last month, Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Nawaz Sharif to wish him for the cricket World Cup and discussed the foreign secretary s visit to Pakistan as part of his SAARC outreach.
The visit is widely seen as thawing of bilateral ties between the two neighbours after a span of nine months.

According to Foreign Office, besides holding formal talks with Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry, Indian Foreign Secretary is also expected to meet Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi.

He is also likely to call on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

The visit of Indian external Affairs Secretary is part of his trip to SAARC member countries but all issues between the two countries would be discussed.

Last week, Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam had indicated that all outstanding issues including Kashmir will be discussed with the Indian foreign secretary.

On the other hand, India has decided to take up the issue of ongoing ceasefire violations at the Line of Control. Besides, other issues concerning resumption of trade and granting India ‘non-discriminatory market access’ or ‘most favoured nation’ trade status will also be taken up.
