Senates Standing Committee approves Anti-Rape Bill
A government employee could face up to 3 years imprisonment over foul investigation
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Senate’s Standing Committee for Law and Justice’s session was presided over by Kazim Khan.
The committee has decided to amend the penal code in accordance with the Anti-Rape Bill.
The bill has recommended that upon failing to properly investigate a rape case, a government employee could face up to 3 years imprisonment.
The bill also recommended that if a police officer attempts to rape a girl while in custody, the police officer could face death penalty or life sentence.
According to the bill, identifying the affected girl or publishing her details may also land the publisher a sentence of up to 3 years.
The victim has to undergo a DNA test as well a medical checkup.
The bill has also recommended that rape cases’ trial and appeals should span less than 6 months.
The standing committee has also placed a ban on the dual nationality of Judges, Armed Forces and all government employees and has extended the authority of higher judiciary to Federally Administrative Tribal Areas (FATA) by passing the bills to make the amendments.
