Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik has held a second meeting with Governor Dr Ishrat Ul-Ebad Khan and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah within 24 hours to review measures to curb the ethnic and political killings in Karachi. Malik vowed zero tolerance against violation of law and order and called for taking strict punitive action against those involved in targeted killings.Malik claimed that there were footprints of miscreants of South Waziristan and Swat in the fresh targeted killings of Karachi. He said any attempts to disrupt peace and security of Karachi would be crushed. No one would be allowed to break law in Karachi and violators would be dealt with iron hand.At a meeting presided over by Sindh CM Qaim Ali Shah and also attended by Rehman Malik on Saturday, the government decided to deploy about 1,000 personnel of the Special Protection Group of the Sindh police at 100 sensitive localities of the metropolis in a bid to stop incidents of targeted killings. The meeting also decided that the special powers conferred upon the Rangers would remain effective for three months. It was also decided in the meeting that no one would be allowed to carry arms in the city while there would be a complete ban on hoisting flags and banners on public buildings.The interior minister declared that anyone who provided information about the culprits of the targeted killings would be given a Rs10 million reward.
