Summary MQM announced a day of mourning against killing of party worker Sohail Ahmed.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – Shutter down strike is being observed in parts of interior Sindh including Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur after the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) announced a day of mourning and peaceful protests across the province against killing of party worker, Dunya News reported on Thursday.
The strike call was given by MQM Coordination after the body of Sohail Ahmed, worker of Unit-64 of Society Sector, was found on Wednesday in the Moach Goth area on the outskirts of Karachi.
During ongoing wheel-jam strike, roads in most parts of Karachi and Hyderabad became deserted while business centres, markets and educational institutes remained closed.
Markets, businesses and fuel stations also remained closed in Sukkur, Tando Allayar, Tando Adamkhel, Mirpur Khas, Jamshoro and other cities.
In a statement, the MQM Coordination Committee claimed that "Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) held an open-house in Bahadurabad where PPP`s goons and police officials were also present there."
"In the same open-house, Sohail Ahmed raised various questions regarding Sindh government performance for that reason he was forced to be quiet and PPP’s Saeed Chawla threatened him for the consequences," it added.
The Committee said that on same 15th December 2014 late night Sohail Ahmed was arbitrarily arrested by the police and on 28th January he was found dead in Moach Goth.
The Coordination Committee said that such malice tactics could not discourage workers` determination with MQM and said Sohail`s blood would not be rendered useless. It demanded the authorities to immediately arrest the PPP’s leaders, police and Rangers officials involved in the incident.
