Contempt notices: SC rejects PCO judges pleas

Summary

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected pleas of PCO judges against the contempt of court notices and ordered the judicial proceeding in this regard from May 10.The apex court ruled that the PCO judges were put on notices as per the Article 204 and Clause 3 and 5 of Court Ordinance 2003. The court maintained that in above said Ordinance has also been approved in the 18th amendment. The judges put on contempt notices include Justice (r) Abdul Hameed Dogar, Justice Iftikhar Hussain Chaudhry, Justice Khursheed Anwar Bhandar, Justice Hamid Ali Shah, Justice Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Justice Hasnat Ahmed Khan, Justice Syed Shabar Rizvi, Justice Yasmin Abbasi, Justice Jahanzeb Raheem and Justice Syed Zahid Hussain. The apex court ordered the PCO judges to submit their replies by May 7 in the court while the Attorney General has also been issued notice for May 10. A 5-member bench, headed by Justice Nasirul Mulk, reserved its ruling on Monday regarding the PCO judges petition against the contempt of court notices.
