The 13km long and 278m deep artificial lake that was formed after a landslide in Ata Abad, Hunza and could wreak a large scale destruction if a reach would emerge if it were flooded.Sources said that around 11,000000cusecs water has been stored in the lake; an outburst in the lake would throw up a large flood wave that could travel downstream as far as Tarbela Dam. FWO sources said that arrangements have been made to flush out water from the lake to avert the predicted disaster, however added that the officials are waiting for the lake to overflow. Warning has been issued for the locals who have started shifting from the place. It will endanger the downstream population and can cause substantive damage to infrastructure and livelihood all the way down to the dam.
