Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar to take charge as DG ISI today

Rizwan Akhtar reserves an extensive experience of counterinsurgency and counterterrorism.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Director General (DG) Inter services Intelligence (ISI) Zaheerul Islam will be retiring today (Friday) and Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar would officially take charge as new DG ISI.

Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar has previously served as DG Rangers Sindh. During his course of service as DG Rangers he has played a pivotal role to ensure law and order in Karachi.

New DG ISI has graduated from Command and Staff College Quetta, National Defence University Islamabad and from Army War College America. He took his commission in Frontier Forces Regiment of Pakistan Army in September 1982.

He has also served as commander Infantry Brigade and Infantry Division Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in addition to serving as GOC South Waziristan.
