PIA welcomes new A320 plane in fleet

10 airbuses, 5 ART and 9 Triple 7 (777) airplanes will also be inducted to the fleet by December.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) commenced a ceremony to welcome a new A320 plane in the fleet at Benazir International Airport in Islamabad on Thursday.

Talking to the media at the event Prime Minister’s Advisor Aviation Captain (r) Shujaat Azeem said induction of new airplane would increase the revenue of the state airlines whereas the deficit has declined from Rs 31 billion to Rs 18 billion.

The plane has been bought on dry lease, he added.

He further said that a request has been made to the Federal government to convert the loan of 1992 into equity as PIA pays Rs 3.29 billion per year in account of interest.

He informed that PIA currently has 25 operational airplanes whereas 10 airbuses, 5 ART and 9 Triple 7 (777) airplanes will also be inducted to the fleet by December.

Shujaat Azeem said that PIA requires planes that consume less fuel adding that PIA currently is conducting 84% of the flight on shorter routes.

After the mishap at Karachi airport, security at all other airports has been beefed up, he added.

He informed that PM has granted Rs 5.7 billion for security measures at Lahore airport.
