More than 1100 militants killed in operation Zarb-e-Azb: DG ISPR

Indiscriminate action is being taken against militants in the two tribal regions, Asim Bajwa said.

 

PESHAWAR (Web Desk) – Director General of Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) has said that more than eleven hundred militants have been killed during ongoing offensive (Zarb-e-Azb) in North Waziristan tribal region, Dunya News reported.

 

Pakistan Army is battling insurgents in North Waziristan since June 15 to eliminate all local and foreign militant groups.

Addressing a press conference on Wednesday, the DG ISPR said that 100 army men have embraced martyrdom in the operation.

Around 44 terrorists have also been killed during operation in Khyber Agency, he added.

He declined to give a timeframe for the end of the operations, saying these would continue in the two tribal regions until the areas were cleared.

He said that security forces have seized 132.5 tonnes of explosives and more than 12,000 different types weapons during the clearance operation.

The army spokesperson further said that TTP Chief Fazlullah and his accomplices are hiding in Nuristan and Kunar, however, there is lack of cooperation from the Afghan side.

To a question regarding the use of Afghan SIMs by militants, he said that towers of Afghan telecommunication companies located near border areas are spilling the signals over Pakistani territory. He urged the Afghan side to carry out work in this regard and certain mobile phone signal towers situated near the Pak-Afghan border area should be relocated.

He said that most areas and roads have been cleared in North Waziristan, however, operation is still underway in other areas with the help of intelligence agencies.

Bajwa said that although the attention of the armed forces was divided due to aggression by Indian personnel on the country s eastern front, the military was capable of giving an appropriate response.

Regarding Muharram, the army spokesman said that the federal and provincial governments have sought assistance in 134 sensitive areas of the country. Army would provide assistance wherever they need us.

DG ISPR Asim Bajwa appealed all the people to immediately inform law enforcement agencies if they come across any suspicious person or activity.
