ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday ruled that airdropping pamphlets after conclusion of election campaign was not illegal. The commission said that the final decision as to whether a violation of the conduct took place or not will be taken on Thursday after the report of provincial Election Commissioner is presented, Dunya News reported.
The ECP said that the polling in National Assembly constituency NA 149 will take place as per the schedule.
The Election Commission officials took notice of airdropping pamphlets in NA 149 after the conclusion of allowed campaign time. The commission also summoned the video footage of the alleged violation.
After reviewing the relevant rules and conduct, the officials ruled that as per the public representation Act’s section 84, only rallies and public meetings are forbidden one day prior to the polling.
The violation of the Act can put the offender behind bars for six months along with Rs 1000 penalty.
