Summary Circular debt of IPPs and oil companies are a major cause in the declined production of electricity.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The reduction in the usage of air conditioner has reduced the unannounced power outage but the urban areas are still suffering through the power interruption for 7 hours whereas the rural areas endure power outage for 10 hours.
According to the sources of National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC), the demand of electricity is 16,100 megawatt whereas the production remains 12,300 megawatt with a short fall of 3,800 megawatt.
Hydroelectricity is being produced according to the capacity but the circular debt of the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and oil companies are a major cause in the declined production of electricity.
Circular debt has reached up to Rs 370 billion which has affected the oil supply to the units producing electricity thus the power is not being produced as per capacity.
