Powers shifted to Parliament instead of PM: Asfandyar

Summary

ANP leader Asfandyar Wali Khan said that powers as per constitutional package were tranferred to the Parliament instead of the Prime Minister. He praised the agreement over renaming the NWFP as Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa and praised both President Asif Ali Zardari and PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif for their role in achieving the consensus. Wali said despite internal party opposition Nawaz Sharif eventually chose to act in the national interest. He added that the process of political reconciliation involved give-and-take, and the newly-reached consensus was an example of this approach. Wali pledged that members of smaller communities in the province formerly known as the NWFP would not be discriminated against. In response to a question, he said there were many other languages spoken in both Sindh and Punjab, yet no one had any objection over the names of those provinces.
