RAWALPINDI (Dunya News) - Inspector General of Punjab Police on Monday said that authorities are assuring heirs of Model Town tragedy victims that all aspects of justice will be fulfilled in the case.

More than 13 protestors belonging to Tahirul Qadri’s Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) were killed and dozens sustained injuries during clash with police in Model Town area of Lahore on June 17. The mob turned violent when police went to the area to remove barriers from outside Minhajul Quran International Secretariat and Dr Tahirul Qadri’s residence.

Talking to media in Rawalpindi, IG Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera said that he has made it clear to the Punjab officers not to misuse their power.

Neither First Information Report (FIR) is being misused nor it should be considered as a charge sheet, he added.

To a question regarding use of force against protestors in the federal capital, he said no Punjab police officer carried weapon in Islamabad to deal with the protestors. Only batons and teargas shells were provided.

He said police have also traced a group involved in target killing incidents in Rawalpindi. Situation in Rawalpindi will be under control before Muharram, however, there is no lack in the security arrangements ahead of this occasion.
