Punjab rain-related incidents: Death toll rises to 32
Monsoon rain shall continue to penetrate Punjab for the next 48 hours.
LAHORE/ SIALKOT/ GUJRANWALA (Dunya News) – Death toll raised to 32 whereas 26 injured as the downpours continue to lash various cities of Punjab.
A youth got electrocuted in Kundian at Piplan whereas four people including two kids died as the roof of the house collapsed in separate incidents at Gohad Pur and Garden Town due to rains. In Okara, Narowal and Jhang, roof of the house caved in claiming life of a girl and injuring 13 others.
Three people including a girl died when the roof of the house came down in Kamoki. A labourer died as the ceiling of a power loom factory collapsed in Faisalabad.
An alert has been issued in Pasrur as the level of water exceeded the optimum level whereas water made its way into the nearby agricultural areas of McLeod Ganj.
Widespread rain-thundershowers have continued to blanket Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Malakand, Hazara division including Kashmir. It has been intermittently raining in Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Okara, Bahawalpur and Multan.
Incessant heavy rain is most likely to invite high waves in the local canals. According to the met office, the monsoon rain shall continue to penetrate Punjab for the next 48 hours.
Earlier, at least 28 people had been killed and dozens injured as roofs of several houses collapsed due to incessant rains in Punjab today. Three people died and two injured in Niaz Biag as roof collapsed whereas heavy rain took three lives when the ceiling collapsed in Defence Phase VI.
Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has grieved that deaths and has offered Rs 5 Lac each to the families of the dead persons and Rs 1 Lac each to the injured.
Strong monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in Punjab and likely to continue during next 2 to 3 days. Met Office has issued flood warnings in River Chenab at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad as the level of water is likely to rise ranging between 350,000 cusecs to 450,000 cusecs.
On Wednesday, six people, including two women and a child, were killed in roof collapse incidents in different areas of the city.
According to details, roof of a double storey building collapsed in Chah Miran area due to torrential rain, killing six people. The deceased included two women and a kid.
Separately, four people were badly injured when roof of a house collapsed in Mozang area while four more people were wounded when roof of a house collapsed in Johar Town area.
Lahore and its suburbs received heavy rain on Wednesday. Several roads in the city were submerged under three to four feet of rainwater. Dozens of motorcycles and cars were trapped on flooded roads and people faced hardship in reaching their homes.
