Protesters block Aabpara Chowk, Malik suspends SHO Bara Kahu

People including students blocked the Kashmir Highway and Aabpara Chowk in Islamabad on Thursday in protest against increase in transport fares. The protesters converged at the Aabpara Chowk for a demonstration and set tyres on fire, blocking the roads. Earlier in the day, the enraged protesters blocked Murree road at Athal Chowk in Bhara Kahu police station jurisdiction, a police spokesman said. The police baton-charged and resorted to tear shelling to disperse the protesters. This annoyed the protesters, who started pelting stones on policemen, injuring 15 of them. Meanwhile, the administration of Federal Government Services Hospital declared emergency in hospital to meet any untoward situation.Reportedly, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad suspended the notification issued about raise in transport fare and restored old charges. Rehman Malik has suspended SHO Bara Kahu. Police operation has entered into final stage to clear the area. Murree road has been opened for traffic.
