Summary "Operation was started to relieve Karachi residents, not to disturb them" - MQM Rabita Committee

KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) staged a protest today against arrest of workers in Karachi. MQM Rabita Committee has said that the operation against criminals was started to comfort the citizens of Karachi but it has rather started disturbing them.

The protest against arrests and illegal raids on MQM workers’ houses was staged outside Karachi Press Club. A large number of women also attended the protest. Protesters said that innocent party workers were being arrested and several had been missing. They also alleged that MQM workers were being persecuted for political reasons and several had been extra-judicially murdered.

Speaking to a press conference on this occasion, MQM senior leader from Hyderabad Kunwar Naved Jameel said that MQM has repeatedly expressed its concerns over the transparency of Karachi Operation but the ‘impartial monitoring committee’ that was announced by the Prime Minister has not yet been established.

He said that senior leaders’ neighbourhoods were being raided illegally and MQM workers were being arrested.

Moreover, Rabita Committee expressed its concerns over arrests of the workers saying that MQM was being impeded from playing its democratic role by arresting its workers unnecessarily and vilifying them as terrorists.

MQM has also protested today in the National Assembly by staging a walkout from the session against allegedly illegal arrests of the party workers.
