Army deployment starts in Islamabad
Army is to be deployed on security for 3 months to counter any untoward happening.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The federal government started to borrow services of Pakistan Army to facilitate the civil administration on Friday. The federal government is accessing the services of Pakistan Army for 3 months under article 245.
In the preliminary stage, around 350 army men would be deployed for security purpose. The officers, for now, have been positioned on standby.
According to the Ministry of Interior, this decision has been being taken in order to counter any untoward attack from the militants as a consequence of Operation Zarb-e-Azb. These deployments are being carried for 3 months; however the time duration can be extended or shrunk depending on the situation.
The notification for the implementation of Article 245 of the constitution had been issued on July 24. According to the notification, the request for the deployment of army had been forwarded by the Chief Commissioner Islamabad. The army would have powers under the Anti-Terrorism Act 1997 and the armed army men would have the authority of a police officer. As per the act, the armed forces could use force after giving a warning. Army would also hold the authority to rummage any building without a search warrant.
According to the first provision of article 245, army is called by the federal government to assist the civil government. According to the sub-provisions, army enjoys the protection of the law and constitution to combat adverse situations.
