Summary

As the mercury is rising in most parts of Sindh, Central and Southern Punjab, the demand of electricity has crossed 12,080MW and the generation remaining at 8,120MW.According to sources in the National Power Control Centre, the shortfall has reached to historic levels of 3,900MW. They acknowledged that the supply-demand gap has resulted in loadshedding/outages of about 10-12 hours a day in many parts of the country. . Lack of thermal generation is causing the main problem in since the supply of thermal oil has been reduced to the thermal power plants. The supply situation could not improve in the last six months, thus the generation units have failed to produce to full capacity.According to the NPCC, hydel generation is has also reduced by 4,000MW due to lesser rains and water reserves.
