NA passes Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2014
Security men would be bound to seek permission from a magistrate before opening fire on the suspect.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - National Assembly on Friday passed ‘The Anti-terrorism (Amendment) Bill 2014’, Dunya News reported.
The bill was tabled by Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit Baltistan Chaudhary Birjees Tahir.
The Anti-terrorism (Second Amendment) Bill, 2014, would be helpful in dealing with terrorism and supporters of terrorist organizations who are involved in their financing and money laundering inside the country.
The latest amendment emphasizes that further legislation is needed to make law enforcement agencies more affective. Especially, Rangers should be given ‘investigation’ rights.
The amendment makes it necessary for the security forces to seek permission from Grade-17 officer or magistrate before opening fire on the suspected terrorist.
Statements of the witnesses could be recorded on camera for their protection whereas suspects involved in anti-state activities, extortion or target killings could be kept under detention for 90 days, the draft states.
The draft of the bill says any officer involved in arrest of a suspect on the basis of false allegations could face two years imprisonment and fine as well.
It may be mentioned here that the bill has already been passed by the Senate.
