LAHORE (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice on Thursday of the atrocious murder that was committed in the name of honour in Lahore on Tuesday. Following which, Punjab police booked four nominated and ten unknown persons under the murder charges. United Kingdom (UK) foreign secretary William Hague called for wider debate on cultural violence while urging Pakistan government to investigate the crime, Dunya News reported.
Prime Minister ordered immediate action against the culprit and sought the full report of the incident. Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif ordered to bring anti-terrorism charges against the culprit and to try them in anti-terrorism court.
PM Nawaz said that such an incident in presence of police is not acceptable at all. He ordered to immediately bring the culprits to the court of justice and to take strict action as per the law.
According to reports, police also arrested one suspect and is making to raids to arrest others booked.
Meanwhile, the UK government called for a greater debate on cultural violence and urged Pakistan to investigate the matter. British foreign secretary William Hague said in a statement that he was shocked and appalled to hear the news adding that the trend and the culture to kill someone in the name of ‘honour’ needs to be brought into greater level of discussion and debate.
25-year-old Farzana was killed by her family outside Lahore High Court (LHC) over marrying the person of her choice.
According to police, Farzana resident of Faisalabad had married by choice and the case was being heard in LHC.
The victim along with her husband was on way to the court for recording her statement when her brothers caught hold of her outside the LHC premises and started hitting her with bricks killing on the spot. Those accused had managed to escape from the scene.
