Electricity loadshedding worsens in scorching heat
Reportedly, 12-18 hours of loadshedding is being carried out throughout the country.
LAHORE (Dunya News) – Twelve to eighteen hours electricity loadshedding a day has exposed government’s claims, Dunya News reported.
Electricity shortfall rose as heat intensified, resulting in increase in electricity loadshedding countrywide. At present, twelve to fourteen hours of electricity loadshedding is being carried out in urban areas while sixteen to eighteen hours in rural areas.
Domestic life and household activities have immensely suffered due to the increase in loadshedding. People in several areas are deprived of water as loadshedding forced local tube-wells to shut down. The unscheduled loadshedding routine has crippled everyday life.
According to Ministry of Water and Power, electricity shortfall has reached two thousand seven hundred megawatt. Electricity production is eleven thousand two hundred ninety megawatt whereas the demand rose to fourteen thousand megawatt. However, the ongoing loadshedding contradicts government figures.
Meanwhile, a petition filed in Lahore High Court submits that Federal Ministry for Water and Power had assured to the court that unannounced loadshedding ended throughout the country and that now six to eight hours of loadshedding will take place per day and yet the normal loadshedding schedule is of around sixteen to eighteen hours a day which violates court orders.
Chief Justice Lahore High Court Umar Atta Bandyal summoned a response from the federal ministry and Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) officials by May 11.
