KARACHI (Dunya News) – As many as five suspects allegedly belonging to banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) were taken into custody on Saturday while police seized their weapons, Dunya News reported.
The suspects were reportedly involved in a number of crimes including sectarian violence, extortion, and robbery.
The city of Quaid is witnessing steps taken by law enforcement to curb target killing. Special investigation team raided AB Cinema Lines and took five accused into custody.
The accused identified as Muhammad Yasin, Ataul Rehman who also goes by alias Attu, Rafiqul Islam, Sajid Abbas and Muhammad Nadeem were taken into custody.
Weapons including four pistols and two hand grenades were recovered from their possession.
Superintendent Special Investigation Unit (SSP SIU) Farooq Awan told the press that the accused were demanding 50 lakh rupees extortion money from a local trader.
The group leader Yasin is named in several violent crimes including sectarian targeted killing, firing at Moharram processions and robberies at cellular franchises.
Leader of the accused, Attaur Rehman has been arrested and sent to prison before but was released due to unreported reasons.

A burnt corpse was found from a house at Shah Faisal Colony area. According to police, the victim was violently tortured to death.
Another body was found from bushes near Super Highway Gana Mandi area and another from Mai Kalachi area. According to police, victims were killed using violent force.
In another domestic dispute incident, a son stabbed his father to death in Muzaffarabad Colony area. The victim was identified as Maqbool. The body was sent to Jinnah Hospital for autopsy.
In a separate incident, a man was gunned down by unidentified men in Gulshan Ghazi area. The victim remained unidentified.
