KARACHI (Web Desk) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Friday) ordered authorities to submit notification regarding appointment of Inspector General of Sindh Police by Monday, Dunya News reported.

A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani resumed the hearing relating to the implementation of the court s earlier order over Karachi s law and order situation.

During case proceedings, the bench asked the Sindh Advocate General whether new Inspector General has been appointed or not.

Advocate General told court that one week’s time was given for IGP’s appointment.

The court remarked that only one day’s time was given for the process.

Deputy Attorney General Aslam Butt told court that federal government, on February 27, had forwarded three officials’ names for the post of IGP but no response was received from Sindh government’s side.

Under the 18th amendment, consultation with the provincial government is necessary for inspector general’s appointment, he said.

Meanwhile, Sindh’s Advocate General Abdul Fateh remarked that the provincial chief minister didn’t agree with the names proposed by the federation.

Officials’ proposed by the federal government cannot establish peace in the province, he told court.

On this, Chief Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani remarked that peace in Karachi is being affected due to difference of opinion.

He ordered authorities to give name for the post of Inspector General of Sindh Police within two hours and submit notification by Monday.
