ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Member of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) talks committee Maulana Samiul Haq has rejected government representative Irfanc Siddiqui’s offer to meet at the Prime Minister House in Islamabad today (Tuesday), Dunya News reported.
Earlier, the meeting was scheduled to take place at Jamaat-e-Islami’s office.
Maulana Samiul Haq said that government’s committee members had agreed to meet at neutral venue, thus, they will have to fulfill their promise.
Preliminary talks between government and TTP committee members are set to get under way in Islamabad to chart a ‘road map’ for future negotiations.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif last week named a four-member team to start dialogue with the militants, who have been waging a violent insurgency in the country since 2007.
The Taliban team includes JUI-S chief Maulana Sami ul-Haq, the chief cleric of Islamabad's Red Mosque Maulana Abdul Aziz, and two top religious party leaders - Mufti Kifayatullah and Prof Ibrahim Khan.
Maulana ul-Haq said that following the preliminary talks, they would discuss with the militant leadership how to proceed.
