ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - The Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling upon the government to revisit the Official Secrets Act 1923 to make it consistent with the constitutionally guaranteed right to information‚ fair trial and fundamental rights.
The resolution was moved by Farhatullah Babar.
Another resolution moved by Babar earlier‚ was also adopted by the House recommending the government to publish the names of judges of the superior judiciary who have dual nationality.
Leader of the House Raja Zafar ul Haq said when the issue was raised in the past‚ the Supreme Court had informed that there was no ban on dual nationality of judges. Federal Shariat Court and Balochistan High Court had informed that none of their judges held dual nationality.
The house also passed another resolution moved by Syed Tahir Hussain Mashhadi recommending the government to take effective steps for narcotics control in the county.
Speaking on a resolution moved by Senator Talha Mahmood‚ Minister for Safron Abdul Qadir Baloch said the government is making all-out efforts to overcome unemployment in the country.
He said the government is taking concrete steps to provide conducive environment to private sector and to attract investors. The minister said government is making efforts to improve law and order in the country and overcome energy crisis.
On a resolution moved by Tahir Hussain Mashhadi‚ the minister said the government is reviewing mismanagement and over-staffing in PIA and also taking measures to address the issue.
Speaking on a motion moved by Nisar Muhammad regarding responsibility of the Federation in pursuance of Article 148 of the constitution‚ the senators said it is the responsibility of the government to counter external aggression and internal disturbance.
They said complete protection of the life and property of citizens is the responsibility of the government.
