Blast in Peshawar's cinema leaves five dead, 22 injured

PESHAWAR (Dunya News) – At least five persons were killed and several others injured in a blast in Picture House Cinema here on Sunday.

According to Dunya News, the explosion occurred when around 100 people were watching a Pashtu film in Picture House Cinema in Qissa Khawani Bazar.

Law enforcement agencies rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area while rescue teams shifted the wounded to Lady Reading Hospital. Police have started investigation.

A police official told Dunya News that it seemed to be a hand grenade blast.

According to DCO Peshawar Zahee-ul-Islam, the administration had warned the cinema house owners of the attacks and asked them to make proper security arrangements.

Pakistan Tehreek-e- Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak have strongly condemned the blast and directed to provide best treatment to the injured persons.

Former president Asif Ali Zardari, PPP patron-in-chief Bilawal Bhutto, Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khurshid Shah condemned the blast.

On the other hand, Banned Tehreek-e-Taliban (TTP) has denied responsibility for the blast in the cinema in Peshawar.
