BANNU (Dunya News) – Three more soldiers, who were undergoing treatment in Peshawar, succumbed to injuries on Monday, mounting the death toll from Bannu blast to 25.

A bomb struck a military convoy in Bannu on Sunday, killing 22 soldiers and wounding more than 30.

Security forces were reportedly patrolling the sensitive areas today to avoid any untoward incident.

Meanwhile, effective steps have been taken to tighten security on entry/exit points of Bannu.

Bodies of eight FC personnel and five army men have been shifted to their native areas while nine bodies were yet to be identified.

The explosion took place in one of the vehicles of the convoy on Sunday killing 22 soldiers and wounding more than 30.

One of the officials said “the convoy was about to leave for Razmak town in North Waziristan when the tragedy struck", adding the blast occurred in one of the civilian vehicles hired for the movement of troops.

Bannu has been the site of several attacks targeting security forces in the past.

Pakistani troops have been fighting for years against homegrown insurgents in the tribal belt, which Washington considers the main hub of Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants plotting attacks on the West and in Afghanistan.
