MURREE (Dunya News) - At least 15 persons were killed and several others injured when two buses fell into a ravine near Salgaran area.
According to Chief Traffic Officer Istiaq Shah, the buses coming from the opposite directions slipped and fell into the ravine. He said that 15 dead bodies had been recovered and 20 injured passengers were being rushed to hospital.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the incident and directed the administration to launch a quick rescue operation.
An emergency situation has been declared at hospitals in Islamabad including PIMS and polyclinic.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the accident. He directed to shift the wounded to hospital and provide them best medical treatment.
Rescue teams were facing difficulty due to bad weather, depth of the ravine and darkness.
Separately, at least two persons died and three others injured when a car fell into a ravine in Kohistan.
Earlier on Wednesday, at least two people were killed and 15 others injured when a speeding passenger bus overturned on Club Road in Islamabad. More than 20 passengers were travelling in the ill-fated bus that was en-route to Murree from Islamabad.
According to police, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle because the road was slippery due to the rain.
The wounded passengers were rushed to Polyclinic and Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where four of the injured, including two children, are in critical condition.
Meanwhile, the traffic police have instructed the drivers to drive safely on the wet roads.
