Summary UK delegation discusses post-NATO situation in Afghanistan with Pak officials.
ISLAMABAD (Online) - UK acknowledges the sacrifices laid down by Pakistan Armed Forces and the people against war-on-terror.
These views were expressed by Secretary of State for Defence of United Kingdom (UK), Phillip Hammonds who called on Federal Minister for Defence Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain and Secretary Defence, Lt Gen (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik here in the Ministry of Defence Production and Defence on Tuesday.
The four member delegation discussed Afghan Post 2014 situation and the emerging regional dynamic after the exit of NATO forces. The delegation congratulated Minister on assuming the charge of Federal Minister for Defence Production and added that the positive approach of the new government will help the region to attain peace and stability.
Secretary Defence, Lt General (Retd) Asif Yasin Malik said that Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with United Kingdom (UK) and want to take ahead bilateral ties between the two countries.
Visiting Secretary Mr. Phillip Hammond acknowledged the sacrifices laid down by Pakistan Armed Forces and the people against war-on-terror adding that a need is felt to greatly recognize efforts between Pakistan and coalition partner, so that the ultimate goal of peace is achieved.
Federal Minister for Defence Production Rana Tanveer Hussain offered United Kingdom (UK) support and assistance in the field of defence production. Pakistan’s defence industry is on a thriving path of indigenization and therefore has a capability to offer UK state of the art defence items produced at the local defence industry.
Pakistan is a member of common wealth and therefore attaches great importance to its deep rooted relations with United Kingdom. Minister for Defence Production added that there is a further need to explore areas of defence cooperation.
Both sides desired that a forum on defence cooperation other than Defence Consultative Forum (DCF) be put in place for further cooperation in areas of defence. The meeting ended on a high note.
