ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court has sought an explanation from the federal government over the withdrawal of electricity subsidy.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the case pertaining to the power tariff and loadshedding on Monday.
The CJP remarked that Pakistan is a welfare state where decisions against the interests of public will not be allowed.
The government will have to mention the reasons for subsidy withdrawal, he added.
Meanwhile, the SC directed NEPRA and PEPCO to compile the record of subsidies being given on power tariff and produce produce them in court today.
Chief justice questioned if the statement of the consumers was recorded before ending the subsidy.
