Summary ISPR says JI Ameer’s statement is an insult to the martyrs of Pakistan Army and their families.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan Army has condemned the statement issued by JI Ameer Prof Munawar Hassan in which he had said that Hakeemullah Mehsud, who was killed in a drone attack, was a martyr.

ISPR in a press release Sunday said that the statement by Munawar Hassan was an insult to the soldiers of Pak Army who sacrificed their lives for the country.

ISPR spokesman said the families of army men who lost their lives in war against militants want Munawar Hassan to tender an apology.

“The statement of Prof Munawar Hassan was misleading and condemnable,” he said.

The spokesman asked Jammat-e-Islami to clarify its position on the issue.

He said Munawar Hassan made a very irresponsible statement and hurt the feeling of army men.

There are serious concerns among the army ranks about the statement by Munawar Hassan, the spokesman said.

Terming the remarks of Munawar Hassan as ‘extremely hurting’ the Pak Army spokesman said JI Ameer was misleading the nation for cheap popularity.

Sacrifices of our Shuhada and their families need no endorsement from Syed Munawar Hassan and such misguided and self-serving statements deserve no comments.

However, coming from Ameer of the Jamat-e-Islami, a party founded by Maulana Maududi, who is respected and revered for his services to Islam is both painful and unfortunate.

The people of Pakistan, whose loved ones laid down their life while fighting the terrorist, and families of Shuhada of armed forces demand an unconditional apology from Syed Munawar Hassan for hurting their feelings.

It is also expected that Jamat-e-Islami should clearly state its party position on the subject.
