Summary Punjab has turned down a request by the ECP to prepare voter lists for upcoming LB polls.
LAHORE (Online) - The Punjab government on Sunday turned down a request by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to prepare voter lists for the upcoming local government elections.
Media reports said, the Punjab government in a letter, told the ECP that it was not their job to prepare electoral roll.
The provincial government cannot prepare voter lists, it said.
On the other hand, ECP has argued that all state institutions are bound to assist the commission in conducting elections and that its request cannot be denied.
The schedule of Local Bodies elections has already become controversial as political parties are demanding postponement of the elections.
However, Supreme Court of Pakistan is insisting that polls should not be delayed.
