Summary

Constitutional Reform Committee has agreed to transfer the power of the President to appoint the chiefs of armed forces to the Prime Minister. Raza Rabbani presided over the meeting of the Constitutional Reform Committee, in the Parliament House. During the meeting, article 243 was reviewed that deals with the appointment of the chiefs of armed forces. According to sources, PPP, PML-N, Jamiat Ulema Islam and PML-Q presented the resolution to amend Article 243 that was adopted unanimously. Under the amendment, the PM will give advice to President instead of consultation with him, for the appointment of chiefs of armed forces.After the approval from the Parliament, Article 243 will be restored at its position of 1999.
