MULTAN (Web Desk) - Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has said that local government elections would be held in December this year, Dunya News reported. 

Talking to newsmen in Multan, the minister said that there is no point of holding local bodies election on party basis, adding that amendment was made for protection of workers’ rights.

Court’s any order in this regard will be fully implemented, he added.

Abid Sher Ali said that people had voted for the PML-N in general elections and added that democratic transition through elections would further improve the situation in all sectors.

Earlier on Thursday, the Punjab Government said that local government elections in the province will be held by December 14.

This was stated during a hearing in the Lahore High Court. The Punjab province had previously given the date of election as December 4.

The Supreme Court had asked all provincial governments to announce the schedule of the local bodies elections and submit it to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) by October 7.
