Summary Kh Asif says govt will not change the tariff slabs and take any step in the light of SC orders.
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Federal Minister of Water and Power Khwaja Asif has said that the tariff of National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is much more than the one determined by the government.
Talking to Dunya News the minister said that the government would not review the revised tariff.
He said according to the constitution ministry of power was under NEPRA and had to follow its directions.
Government is still paying subsidy over electricity worth Rs 200 billion, he said.
The minister denied the rumours that government would again increase the electricity rates after three months.
He said KESC was buying electricity at cheaper rates and selling it on higher rates.
Minister for Water and Power, Khawaja Asif said that former Water and Power Ministers who, according to him, altered the agreement to sell electricity at cheap prices to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) should be held accountable and not the KESC management.
"It is an arrangement for which KESC management is not responsible. Action should be taken against those people, that is, former ministers who made arrangements in 2006 and 2009 with a private entity to procure cheap electricity from NTDC and sell it to its own consumers at higher prices," he said.
