Summary Says fall and rise in dollar has caused loss of billion of rupees to the national exchequer.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Opposition leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khurshid Shah has called for probe into down slide and then unprecedented rise in the value of dollar.

“I demand that government should hold inquiry into sudden fall and then sudden unprecedented rise in the value of dollar. Fall and rise in the value of dollar has caused loss of billion of rupees to the national exchequer. Government, under an agreement, has told IMF that it will raise value of dollar equal to Rs 127”, he said this while talking to media men.

He went on to say this is thinking of the government that 70 percent people use electricity ranging between 50 to 200 units per month in the country. But government does not know that 40 to 45 percent people among these 70 percent are those who don’t pay electricity bills. Ten percent load of 70 percent consumers is being met by raising the industrial tariff.

Petroleum products have become cheaper in international market while these have become costlier in Pakistan, he held. Till the recent past former opposition leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan called petroleum levy “jugga tax”. He should get waive this jugga tax now, he demanded. If government withdraws this jugga tax, the petroleum products will become cheaper in the country, he remarked.

To a question he said information minister Pervez Rashid should understand it well that state is not commercial but it is welfare state. The present government has overburdened the people with the taxes rather than providing relief to them, he alleged.

The treasury was empty when PPP came to power but we allowed subsidy to the tune of Rs 1400 billion on electricity and Rs 1300 billion on other commodities, he stated.

Government had pledged with people that it would erase circular debt and load shedding will come to end but all such claims made by the government stand negated as load shedding ranging between 8 to 9 hours is being observed daily.
