Summary Standing Committee has asked govt to explain the recent hike in the electricity tariff.
ISLAMABAD (Online) - The Standing Committee of Senate on Water and Power has asked government to explain the recent hike in the tariff of electricity and prevented its implementation.
The committee called the high officials of Ministry of Water and Power and National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on 12th August for briefing.
On Tuesday the Chairman of the committee, Senator Zahid Khan told Online that the senate’s body has asked the government to stop implementation of increase in power price till the committee would go through the details of enhancing the cost of electricity.
If it would be convinced then it would give approval for increase or else it would reject it.
“We think that increase in the price of electricity is the public interest affair as it would put affect on the cost of all items”, Khan added.
